Ahmedabad: Two men died due to injuries and burns after a collision between a tanker, a truck, and an SUV on the Sanand-Viramgam highway near Khoraj late on Monday. Sanand GIDC police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the drivers of the tanker and the truck.According to the complaint, the accident occurred around 10.15pm near Virochannagar crossroads. A dump truck loaded with gravel was turning towards Khoraj when it collided with a tanker coming from Sanand. Police said both vehicles were being driven at high speed and without due care at the junction.Due to the impact, the truck lost balance and overturned. It hit an SUV, which got trapped under the gravel. Within minutes, all three vehicles caught fire. People present at the spot called up police and the fire brigade. Fire teams from Sanand and Viramgam reached the spot and brought the fire under control.The driver of the SUV, a 24-year-old man from Amthapura village in Sanand, got trapped inside the vehicle and died in the fire. Another man who was in the tanker’s cabin also died as he was unable to escape. His identity has not been confirmed so far. Police said another person standing near the SUV managed to move away before the fire spread.The tanker and the truck were damaged in the fire. Their drivers fled the spot. Based on the complaint, police have begun an investigation to ascertain the sequence of events.
