Ahmedabad: In Jan, two humans were injured in two incidents of leopard attacks in Narmada district. Since Jan 1, 2024 to Jan 31, 2026, there were 14 attacks on humans. Of these, four people died while 10 were injured.The govt was replying to a question by Dediapada AAP MLA Chaitra Vasava. The govt said that about Rs 25 lakh was paid as compensation for deaths, while the amount was Rs 3.25 lakh in cases of injuries.The govt further said in the reply that there was only one incident of leopard attack on blackbucks, in which eight of the antelopes died. Officials said that blackbucks are not found in the wild, and hence the department mentioned that it was in captivity.It is worth recalling that the district, as per the last census in 2023, had 66 leopards, which was only 38 in 2013. The officials said that the leopard population was increasing across the state.
