Gandhinagar: Director General of Police K L N Rao on Monday held a meeting to review the various security arrangements that are being put in place for smooth conduct of local body elections scheduled to be held later this month.An official statement said that ATS ADGP Amit Vishwakarma was named as the nodal officer to oversee various aspects of security during the elections. The election code of conduct has come into force for elections of 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats and 260 taluka panchayats. An official statement said the state police chief held a video conference with all police commissioners and district superintendents of police. An extensive review of the law and order situation was conducted to ensure polls are held in a free and fair environment. High-ranking officers have been instructed to pay attention to intensifying combing operations in various sensitive districts and to strictly monitor and act against illegal arms and prohibited activities, the statement said. The final date for filing nomination papers is April 11, and the last date for withdrawal is April 15. Voting will take place on April 26, and the counting of votes will be taken up on April 28. Additionally, voting for the Umreth assembly seat byelection will also be held on April 23.
