GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat assembly received a bomb threat via email on Wednesday morning during the ongoing budget session, but police later confirmed it was a hoax after a thorough inspection of the premises. The threat, sent to the assembly’s official email ID, claimed a bomb had been planted, prompting all staff and MLAs to vacate the complex as a precaution, Deputy Superintendent of Police Piyush Vanda said. The email arrived around 8:45 am, just before the House was scheduled to begin at 9 am. Local police, including the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, conducted a detailed search of the assembly complex. Gandhinagar Superintendent of Police Ravi Teja Vasamsetty later confirmed that no suspicious items were found, allowing proceedings to resume after an hour’s delay. Speaker Shankar Chaudhary informed the House that nothing suspicious was discovered during the security check and assured members that strict action would be taken against the sender of the email. Lawmakers from both parties demanded action against those behind such hoaxes. BJP MLA Mahesh Kaswala said such threats undermine Gujarat’s peaceful environment, noting previous similar incidents targeting schools and courts. Congress MLA Imran Khedawala echoed the call for strict action, highlighting that repeated threats have created concern among citizens.(With agency inputs)
