Chandigarh: Govt Railway Police (GRP), Haryana, has arrested two accused with 15 kg of charas worth around Rs 30 lakh in the international market, at Chandigarh railway station. Lauding the GRP team, Haryana director general of police (DGP) Ajay Singhal said the Haryana Police is firmly working under a “Zero Tolerance” policy against drug trafficking. He emphasised that strict action is being taken against those attempting to smuggle illegal narcotics through railway routes, and efforts are being intensified to strengthen inter-state co-ordination to dismantle such networks. Superintendent of police (SP), GRP, Nitika Gehlot, said during a special checking drive conducted at Chandigarh railway station as part of heightened security and vigilance measures, a team, led by SHO inspector Urmila Devi, intercepted two youths on suspicion. Upon conducting a search, 31 packets of charas were recovered from their trolley bags, weighing aroud 15 kg.The accused have been identified as Rahul, 24, a resident of Chaugaon village in Himachal’s Kullu district, and Ramzan, 24, a resident of Rahadar village in HP’s Kullu.Since the recovered contraband falls under the category of “commercial quantity”, a case was registered against both the accused under the NDPS Act at GRP Chandigarh police station.
