Bengaluru: With the monsoon approaching, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has issued a stern warning to engineers handling flood mitigation works across the city, stating that failure to complete projects by the end of May will invite suspension.GBA directed officials to conduct drone surveys of major stormwater drains before and after desilting works.Officials were also directed to inspect flood-prone areas on the ground and ensure side drains and shoulder drains are cleaned to prevent waterlogging on roads. To strengthen disaster preparedness, GBA asked civic bodies to activate control rooms, deploy nodal officers, and coordinate with agencies including BWSSB, Bescom, Metro, Railways and fire services.Measures were also ordered to handle fallen trees and ensure quick response to public complaints during the rainy season. Tushar Giri Nath, additional chief secretary, during an inspection of multiple flood-prone areas on Friday, directed officials to ensure that all critical works are completed before the rains and that temporary measures are put in place wherever delays persist.Kendriya Vihar and Kogilu Junction — A 2.7-km drain connecting Yelahanka Lake to Jakkur Lake is underway, with 1.5 km already completed. Temporary drains have also been created to ensure uninterrupted water flow this monsoonTata Nagar near Doddabommasandra — A 900-metre drain is under construction, along with raised retaining walls. Officials have been instructed to complete desilting, widen outlets, and fix missing drainage links within 15 daysHebbal — A large-scale wetland development project across 192 acres is underway to improve water absorption and hence, reduce flooding, including at Hebbal Junction and under the flyover. Works to divert rainwater directly into the lake and addressing key waterlogging points are nearing completion.Nagawara Junction — BWSSB pipeline works are expected to be completed within 15 days, followed by road concreting in another 15 days to ensure both flood mitigation and smoother traffic flowTech corridor zones such as Manyata Tech Park and ORR stretches — Land has been acquired to construct new stormwater drains, including two artificial channels connecting to Hebbal ValleyHBR Layout and Sai Layout — Delays in BWSSB’s intake well project due to rocky terrain have pushed deadlines to Oct. In the interim, authorities have planned pumping systems to manage excess water. At Gedalahalli, critical railway vent works are underway and have been directed to be completed by the end of May, which will help divert water from HBR Layout
