Barnala: A Class XII student of Govt Senior Secondary Smart School (Girls), Barnala, has been selected for the prestigious Sakura Science High School Program 2026 in Japan.Alisha Rani is among 56 students selected from across the country and is one of three students chosen from Punjab for the week-long educational tour.Alisha has been selected by the department of school education and literacy, which functions under the Union ministry of education. The visit, scheduled from May 24 to 30, aims to provide students with valuable exposure and knowledge in science and technology.Alisha said the visit would provide her with an opportunity to learn about advancements in science and technology. She expressed gratitude to her school principal and teachers for their support and guidance.Barnala deputy commissioner Harpreet Singh described this as an opportunity for students to advance in the fields of science and technology. Barnala district education officer (secondary) Suneet Inder Singh stated that selections for the program are made at the national level on the basis of academic excellence. Alisha has consistently performed well, having qualified for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) examination, and has been receiving a scholarship of Rs 12,000 annually since Class VIII. She secured 97% marks in Class X.
