Bhubaneswar: The govt has approved 755 new positions in teaching and patient care in state-run medical colleges to help strengthen the healthcare system and provide public advanced medical services.The approved positions include those of seven professors, 35 associate professors, 50 assistant professors, 29 tutors, 248 senior residents, 190 junior residents (MBBS), 112 casualty medical officers and 84 blood bank officers. Once these positions are filled up, more teachers and doctors would be available in medical colleges.“This decision is not limited to creating new positions; it is a visionary step towards improving quality of medical education, creating skilled doctors and providing more advanced and prompt healthcare services to patients in the state,” read an official statement issued by the health and family welfare department on Tuesday.On this occasion, health minister Mukesh Mahaling said the state govt’s goal is to provide advanced healthcare to people and further strengthen the foundation of medical education. The approval of these 755 positions would enhance necessary human resources in medical colleges, allowing patients to receive more advanced medical services, the minister said.
