Nagpur: A new 1-km walking trail at Gorewada Zoo is anticipated to open to visitors by mid-2026, according to officials involved in the project. The trail is being developed within the zoo’s core animal display area, passing enclosures that house both herbivores and carnivores.Officials stated that the pathway is being laid with landscaping along its sides and will feature transplanted trees to provide ample shade. Work on the trail is currently underway, with benches being installed at regular intervals. The primary aim is to offer a dedicated pedestrian route through the zoo’s main viewing zones. This project is part of ongoing efforts to expand visitor facilities at the zoo. Authorities believe the walking path will allow for better movement within the zoo premises and help decongest vehicle routes, particularly during weekends and holidays. The trail’s design ensures that visitors will gain walking access to areas previously accessible only via safari vehicles. Crucially, there will be clear separation between visitors and animal enclosures through robust barriers and designated boundaries, prioritizing safety.Gorewada Zoo, spanning nearly 1,900 hectares, stands as one of the country’s few large-scale zoological parks. It has been progressively developing its facilities since opening to the public.
