Margao: The advanced waste treatment plant at Sonsoddo is 95% complete, urban development minister Vishwajit Rane said.“Minor work and trial of the working of the plant and commissioning are remaining,” the minister said in reply to a question by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco during the recently concluded assembly session. The contractual deadline for the commissioning of the plant was Dec 2, 2025.Rane told the House that the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) signed a tripartite agreement with the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) and Pune-based GD Environmental Pvt Ltd on Nov 5, 2025, for the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the 10-tonne-per-day (TPD) gasification-based waste disposal system. The plant, which employs gasification technology to convert waste into fly ash for brick manufacturing, was scheduled for inauguration on Jan 26.The date was missed, with officials citing delays in mandatory regulatory consent from the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB).
