Porvorim: The constitution of the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights is “under process” and will be “notified shortly”, minister for women and child development Vishwajit Rane stated in the Goa Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.The quasi-judicial monitoring body empowered for child rights has been non-functional, with neither members nor a chairperson appointed for close to two years. Between Jan 2025 and Jan 2026, 17 cases were received. “Since the constitution of the new commission is in process, the cases received from the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights are handled by directorate of women and child development,” Rane stated.As a result of the commission not being constituted, nil awareness programmes were conducted by the commission over the last two years, and no orders were passed by the commission in cases against injustice to children, Rane said.He added that 31 awareness programmes on child rights were conducted by the directorate of women and child development for the current financial year.
