Nagpur: Chairperson of the education special committee, Santoshdevi Laddha, recently reviewed the availability of sanitation staff and the condition of toilets in schools run by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and issued strict directions to ensure clean and safe campuses. During the meeting held with officials from the health and education departments, Laddha sought detailed information on deployment of sanitation workers, and the frequency of cleaning, particularly in school toilets. She stressed that maintaining hygiene in schools must be treated as a top priority as it directly affects the health and safety of students as well as the overall learning environment.Officials were directed to immediately deploy additional manpower in schools having shortage of sanitation staff. Departments were instructed to ensure that all school toilets are cleaned regularly and in a timely manner.Laddha warned that negligence in maintaining cleanliness would not be tolerated. She asked officials from the education and sanitation departments to work in coordination and carry out regular inspections to ensure that no school is neglected.She further directed officers to conduct frequent visits to schools to monitor sanitation conditions and take immediate corrective measures wherever lapses are found.Deputy commissioner (solid waste management) Rajesh Bhagat, chief sanitation officer Dr Gajendra Mahalle, deputy education officer Seema Khobragade, and sanitation officers from all zones were present at the meeting.
