Kanpur: A nine-year-old girl was kidnapped from the platform of Central Railway Station on Sunday evening after an elderly man took her away on the pretext of buying her snacks from a stall. The GRP traced the girl within a few hours with the help of CCTV cameras, but the kidnapper escaped.The girl was present at the platform with her mother, Anuja, a resident of Mangalpur, Aurangabad, in Kanpur Dehat. Anuja’s husband Ramu used to beat her regularly because they had three daughters. On Saturday, after the couple had a dispute, Anuja took her 3-month-old, 6-year-old, and 9-year-old daughters and boarded a train from Pukhrayan to Kanpur Central.On Sunday evening, an unknown person came and sat near them and started a conversation to build familiarity. He took the 9-year-old daughter towards the stall on the pretext of buying her snacks and suddenly disappeared.Upon receiving the complaint, a report was registered, and RPF and GRP swung into action and checked the cameras. The elderly man was captured on camera taking the girl away. The team reached the outer side of the station and found the girl sitting at a spot, but the man had fled.GRP inspector-in-charge Om Narayan Singh of Kanpur Central Station said a checking campaign is underway to arrest the accused.
