Mumbai: A power outage disrupted large parts of Girgaon since 7 pm on Tuesday, leaving key commercial stretches in darkness and forcing shopkeepers and business owners to shut early. The outage continued for over two hours. With electricity supply snapped, several establishments were locked up ahead of schedule, while residents and commuters were left navigating dimly lit roads.According to sources, the disruption was caused after a cable termination in Girgaon caught fire. Officials said the matter was immediately taken up by BEST over a call and a repair team was dispatched to the spot. Tripping-related work was under way to restore supply at the earliest, an official said on Tuesday night. It is learnt that the fire broke out in the switchgear of Girgaon power feeder after which the testing engineer shut down the secondary breaker of Power Transformer. The fire was later extinguished with the help of CO2 cylinders, and the switchgear was isolated.
