As additional consignments reach Nagpur, teams will start cutting and installing the cables in a phased manner. The entire cable network will be laid either underground or submerged underwater, ensuring seamless integration with the fountain’s infrastructure while remaining concealed from view, said the senior official. The restoration involves installation of multiple types of cables, including power supply cables for the fountain system and specialised signalling and sensing cables essential for synchronised operations. Before procurement, the specifications were vetted by experts from IIT Bombay. “The IIT team inspected the system and suggested the required cable specifications. Based on their recommendations, testing was carried out and the approved types of cables were finalised,” the official said. The cables were sourced accordingly to ensure compatibility with the original fountain design and to withstand prolonged exposure to moisture. The cable replacement is considered a critical component of the broader revival plan for Futala fountain, which remained non-functional for nearly two years. Prolonged stagnation led to deterioration of the earlier electrical infrastructure, necessitating complete replacement.Alongside cable installation, other restoration measures, including pump component replacements and structural works, are being planned in phases. A French technical team is expected to visit Nagpur in the coming days to oversee the installation and calibration of the newly procured fountain systems. Officials said the team will supervise integration of the electrical, signalling and synchronisation components to ensure that the musical fountain is restored in line with its original design specifications. In parallel, replacement pump components are being sourced from Paris, France, and are likely to arrive after the final order is processed. Once delivered, the components will be installed under expert supervision, followed by testing and trial runs.
