Varanasi: A national-level Saras fair will be organised at the sports ground of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University from Feb 20 to March 2. The 10-day event will feature the exhibition and sale of excellent products from various states across the country. District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar held a meeting on Tuesday to review preparations. According to the officials, major stalls from Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, Kerala, and Haryana will be installed at the fair. Additionally, participation of stalls from all districts is also being arranged. The fair will mainly feature chikan work, black pottery, silk sarees, wooden toys, ladies’ garments, glass bangles, soft toys, decorative items, zari zardozi, jute bags, bamboo products, bed sheets, natural food, and coconut products. The fair will not only be a platform for displaying the art of skilled women artisans but will also help in taking their skills to every home and providing them better market access.During the meeting, the DM gave necessary instructions to officials concerned regarding fair preparations, including traffic, cleanliness, health facilities, firefighting arrangements, accommodation and transport arrangements for participants, and security. Officials said around 5000 people are expected to visit the fair daily. The event will also feature cultural programmes daily, giving stall participants from other states and fair visitors an opportunity to experience Varanasi’s art. Such fairs were previously organised four times in Varanasi, where the artisans got good business opportunities
