Pune: The Sahakarnagar police have booked four individuals for allegedly cheating 16 people of Rs35.55 lakh by promising permanent jobs for their special children in the Indian Railways.According to the police, the accused collected between Rs1.5 lakh and Rs2.5 lakh from each victim between July 2025 and February this year, but failed to secure any jobs for their wards. The recruitment documents provided to the victims were later found to be fake.Senior inspector Vitthal Pawar of the Sahakarnagar police said, “All the victims have special children and were eager to secure permanent government jobs for their wards. In the process, they ended up paying money to the suspects.”A 58-year-old resident of Dhankawadi, one of the victims of the job fraud, lodged a police complaint on Tuesday evening. He and the other 15 victims know each other.Pawar said, “The complainant is a real estate agent and knows many people through his business. He was also acquainted with one of the suspects.”According to the police, the complainant expressed concern about his special child during a casual conversation with the suspect he knew. He requested the latter to help him find a job for his son, the police said.“In July last year, the suspect called the complainant and told him that the Indian Railways had not conducted any recruitment drives since the Covid-19 lockdown, but now large-scale recruitment was about to begin,” Pawar said. The suspect allegedly claimed that several of his relatives were in the Indian Railways. He took the complainant to an office near Pune railway station and introduced him to the three other suspects. The four suspects allegedly told the complainant to fill up application forms for his son and encouraged him to find other eligible special candidates. The complainant then contacted his family members and friends (from Katraj and Dhankawdi) having special children. Eventually, 15 others filled up the forms. After accepting the money, the suspects failed to provide any jobs to the special candidates.
