Jaipur: Four basketball players and two officials from Manipal University Jaipur have been selected to be part of the Indian delegation for the World University Games, being hosted across five major cities in Germany, including Berlin. Over 8,500 athletes from more than 150 countries are participating in this prestigious global event.India has sent a 404-member contingent, including 304 athletes, to compete in these games. Among the Indian team, nine athletes hail from Rajasthan, six of whom are basketball players — and notably, four of them are from Manipal University Jaipur. The selected players are Kirtiraj Singh Chundawat, Krishnapal Singh Gohil, Mohammad Ishan, and Lokesh Kumar Sharma.Accompanying the team are Ram Kumar Gehlawat, a former international player, who is serving as the head coach of the Indian basketball team, and Dr Reena Poonia, Director of Sports at Manipal University Jaipur, has been appointed as the Administrative Officer of the Indian contingent.Dr Reena Poonia shared that this is a landmark moment as the Indian basketball team is participating in the World University Games for the very first time. She described the team’s representation at such a prestigious international platform as a strong and remarkable achievement for university-level basketball in India. The games are being held from July 16 to 27, 2025.On this proud occasion, Dr NN Sharma, President-MUJ, Dr Karunakar A Kotegar, Pro-President, Dr Amit Soni, Registrar, Dr Mallikarjun Gadapa, Director, CDOE, and the entire MUJ family have extended their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the selected players and officials.
