Mysuru: The forest department successfully rescued a 35-year-old tusker that caused havoc in the forest fringes for the past two months. The elephant damaged railway fences and crops, and killed a local named Maada the previous week. After it was rescued, the elephant was relocated to Ramapura elephant camp.The elephant, which broke through railway fences in search of food, emerged from the forest in Moleyuru range of the Bandipur Tiger Reserve. It invaded fields in the villages of Katavalu and Mathadakatte in Saragur taluk, destroying crops, foresters said.On Wednesday night, officials attempted to capture the elephant after it broke through railway fences again. They inspected the area where the elephant was located but postponed the capture due to nightfall.On Thursday morning, when the elephant was in the fields of Mathadakatte and Katavalu villages, forest department successfully tranquilised and captured it with the help of elephants Ekalavya, Sugreeva, Prashanth, and Ayyappa from the Dubare elephant camp.
