Belagavi: Forest department intensified surveillance in the Club Road area following reports from residents that a leopard was sighted in the vicinity. However, officials said there was no confirmed evidence so far.According to some passers-by, the animal was allegedly seen in dense bushes within a college campus in the Club Road locality on Saturday. After receiving information, forest department personnel visited the spot and monitored the area, conducting inspections at different locations. They placed a cage behind the CPEd Ground to capture the animal.
Forest officials said no official confirmation, CCTV footage, or other proof was found to establish the presence of a leopard. Nevertheless, precautionary measures were taken to prevent panic and ensure public safety.Recalling a similar incident in 2022, officials said a leopard was reported in the Golf Course area, prompting an extensive search operation involving police, trained dogs, and elephants. The animal was never traced.Deputy conservator of forests (DCF) NE Kranti said: “Some people reported leopard sightings in the dense bushes in the Club Road area. However, there is no official proof or CCTV footage. Based on the information provided by citizens, forest department staff are keeping watch in the area.”
