Coimbatore: Food safety officials on Tuesday inspected a prominent hypermarket at Lakshmi Mills in the city, following a complaint lodged against it by a consumer for selling spoiled chicken.On Monday night, A Sasikumar, a resident of Madukkarai, visited the hypermarket with his family and purchased fried chicken for his children. Talking to TOI, Sasikumar said, “Minutes after consuming the fried chicken, my children, including my toddler, developed diarrhoea and started vomiting. That’s when we realised that the chicken was spoiled; it had a rotten smell and worms. We approached the hypermarket representatives for help, but received no proper response. They neither took responsibility for the incident. None of their employees was willing to eat the same chicken they had served us.“On Tuesday morning, Sasikumar lodged a complaint with the district food safety officer, prompting officials to inspect the hypermarket. According to official sources, food samples, including frozen meat, were collected from the hypermarket for laboratory testing. However, the inspection did not uncover any expired items.
