Kolkata: A 21-year-old flyer from Thane (Maharashtra), Mohammad Usman Sheikh, was arrested at Kolkata airport on Sunday for allegedly trying to board a flight to Mumbai with two live bullets and two empty cases without carrying any legal documents, the police said. He was remanded in two days of police custody on Sunday. He would be produced before the court again on Tuesday.Cops said the .32 mm bullets and 7.65 mm empty cases were found in Sheikh’s hand baggage when he was travelling with a relative. The bullets were detected when he kept the bags for screening at the security hold area at 8:40 am. “The man was taken to a separate room for questioning. He failed to produce any documents and said he was unaware of the bullets. His relative’s bag was also checked, but nothing suspicious was found, so the relative was allowed to leave. Sheikh was handed over to the police,” an airport official said.Cops said Sheikh had come to Kolkata to attend a family function. “He has claimed his family owns licensed guns and ammunition. His relatives have even forwarded copies of the licence, but the licence is valid only in Maharashtra,” an officer said, explaining why Sheikh was held.
