Chennai: Five people were arrested in connection with two separate robbery incidents reported in Vyasarpadi and Koyambedu. Police recovered the stolen valuables from them.In the incident reported in Koyambedu, police arrested two habitual offenders for snatching a gold chain from a young woman at the Koyambedu bus terminus and recovered the stolen jewellery, along with the two-wheeler used in the crime.Aarthi, 20, a resident of Sirkazhi, was at the Koyambedu bus terminus on Friday morning to travel to Andhra Pradesh when two men on a motorcycle snatched her gold chain and fled. Based on her complaint, the CMBT police registered a case and launched an investigation. A special team traced and arrested Mohamed Jafar, 27, of Villivakkam, and Vivek, 32, of Padi and recovered one sovereign gold chain from them. An investigation officer said Mohamed Jafar was a history-sheeter at JJ Nagar police station with 14 previous criminal cases, while Vivek had two prior cases against him. In another incident in Vyasarpadi, police arrested three men for assaulting a migrant worker and robbing his mobile phone near a temple in the area. The stolen phone and the two-wheeler used in the crime were recovered.Rameshwar Palvi, 25, a native of Madhya Pradesh, filed a complaint with the Sembium crime branch. Based on the complaint and an examination of CCTV footage from the area, police traced and arrested Shiva alias ‘Lottai’ Shiva, 23, of Madhavaram, Lakshmanan, 22, of Vyasarpadi, and Nagaraj alias ‘YouTube’ Nagaraj, 27, of Red Hills. All the accused were remanded in judicial custody.
