Ludhiana: Acting on the complaint submitted by the shopkeepers association from Model Town Welfare Society against a restaurant owner for throwing putrid waste on road, the Punjab State Human Rights Commission has directed the MC commissioner to check the complaint and submit the report one week before the next date of hearing. The next date of hearing is April 30.The complaint was filed on Jan 23 by the members of the Model Town Market Welfare Society, Ludhiana, alleging therein that the residents and shopkeepers in the residential area behind the Model Town Gol Market have been forced to live a hellish life for a long time. A restaurant owner there daily throws dirty, foul-smelling wastewater into the street. Because of this, the shopkeepers and residents living in that street are facing great difficulties. The shopkeepers claimed that they informed the councillor and MC officials, but the situation is getting worse day by day. A terrible disease could spread at any moment. Complainants have prayed to take action in the above-mentioned matter. The PSHRC, in its orders, addressed the complaint to commissioner, Ludhiana municipal corporation, Ludhiana, and mentioned that the matter should be put up before the commissioner to submit his report before the next date of hearing. Notably, the shopkeepers in the market also raised the issue of rats in the public park in the area, and even that matter was taken up at PSHRC because MC officials failed to act.
