Ranchi: The fire service wing would soon set up a command and control centre at its headquarters to monitor functioning of fire stations and their vehicles across the state to better response time. Director general (DG) (fire service and home guards) MS Bhatia said, “A detailed project report for modernisation of fire services wing, including setting up of the command and control centre at the headquarters, has been sanctioned by the finance commission. The command centre would be linked to all fire stations.”“Time is crucial in fighting fire. First responder is the fire station located in the area. Fire-fighting centres of neighbouring stations are mobilised when the fire is huge. The centre, which would have information about the status of fire-fighting vehicles across the state, would enable better co-ordination and send the required number of fire tenders and manpower to the site,” he added. The department also has a proposal to increase density of fire stations across the state to decrease response time. Fire audit of sensitive spots, including high-rises and hospitals, would be conducted. Mock drills and sensitisation programme in schools and colleges would be held. The department plans to purchase 56 small fire tenders for quick response to incidents in congested areas and narrows lanes of towns and cities. Moreover, 42 bike fire tenders with cylinders would also be deployed in the state, the DG added.
