Chandigarh: A fire broke out in a room located on the 3rd floor of the research B-block at the PGI late Sunday night.According to the PGI administration, the fire was suspected to be caused by a short circuit in the air conditioning unit or its associated electrical equipment. Fortunately, no major damage or casualties were reported.Staff members present at the site noted that the external AC unit was completely charred. The surrounding walls and ceiling were covered in soot and smoke, with melted plastic and wire remnants scattered across the floor.Upon witnessing the blaze, institute security personnel and the fire department were immediately alerted. Firefighters managed to control the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent rooms or causing significant structural damage.The administration confirmed that the situation was under control, and an investigation into the exact electrical failure was underway.
