Noida: A fire broke out at a paint manufacturing unit in the Site 4 area of Greater Noida on Wednesday, triggering panic in the surrounding industrial zone. The incident occurred at the unit owned by Colortax Polymarks Company. Officials said since the factory was closed, there were no casualties. However, property worth several lakhs of rupees was destroyed in the blaze. The fire department was informed about the fire at 4.01pm. However, the presence of thinner and other highly flammable chemicals inside the factory intensified the fire, making the situation challenging for rescue teams.Chief fire officer Pradeep Kumar Chaubey said, “Thick black smoke billowed as the flames spread quickly on the premises. Explosions of the thinner drums raised concerns among workers of the nearby industrial units. More fire tenders rushed to the site. In total, around six fire engines were deployed to bring the fire under control.”Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly 45 minutes before successfully dousing it and preventing it from spreading to nearby factories. Officials said timely action by the fire department helped avert a major disaster.Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have spread quickly due to the presence of chemical substances used in paint manufacturing. Authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. Assessment of damages is currently underway.
