Patiala: Patiala police have registered a criminal case against Sikh preacher and former Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) president Baljit Singh Daduwal on a complaint by current HSGMC chief Jagdish Singh Jhinda, days after a clash following a religious ceremony in Shergarh village.Confirming the development, Patiala SP (D) Gurbans Singh said a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and investigations are underway. In his complaint, Jhinda alleged that the incident occurred near Arno village on the Kaithal road after the Bhog ceremony. He claimed Daduwal, along with seven associates, followed his vehicle for 10–12 km and attempted to assault him.Jhinda further alleged that the accused tried to open fire, but failed as the car door did not open. He said he and his supporters escaped unharmed. He also claimed that he staged a protest outside a police station on Wednesday, demanding registration of a case, following which the FIR was lodged. Police, however, denied that any protest took place.Reacting to the FIR, Daduwal termed the allegations politically motivated. “I have been informed about the case. It has been registered under political pressure. We will meet at Shergarh Gurdwara Sahib on Thursday to decide further action,” he said.Daduwal countered that Jhinda had disrupted the religious ceremony and hurt religious sentiments. He claimed members of the local Sikh Sangat had already submitted a complaint against Jhinda. The dispute stems from Tuesday’s Bhog ceremony in Shergarh, where both leaders were present. Police said statements are being recorded and further investigation is in progress.. MSID:: 129659725 413 |
