NOIDA: An FIR has been registered against a couple for allegedly confining a 20-year-old woman from Jharkhand, forcing her into bonded labour, assaulting and molesting her at their residence in Greater Noida’s Gamma 1 area. The FIR was lodged on Sunday following a complaint by the woman’s sister.Police said the man, Vijay Sharma, had brought the woman from her village in Ranchi in 2020 on the promise of work and a better future. She was a minor at the time. Her family initially remained in touch with her through phone calls, but communication stopped after some time. The accused allegedly prevented the woman from contacting her family and did not disclose her whereabouts.The matter came to light on March 17 when the woman managed to contact her sister and revealed her ordeal. She alleged that she was being forced to do household work without being paid any wages. The woman said she was assaulted when she resisted and was not allowed to return home. She also accused Sharma of repeatedly molesting her.Following the call, the woman’s family approached an NGO, which intervened and helped rescue her. Police said the woman has been shifted to a One Stop Centre, where she is receiving support.Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered against Vijay Sharma and Tanvi Sharma under sections 74 (assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 143 (trafficking of person) of BNS. Police said statements are being recorded and further investigation is underway.(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
