Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated filing FIR against a CBSE school headmistress for allegedly refusing to cooperate with Census 2026-27 duty orders.In a fresh communication to Bhandewadi police, civic officials have sought registration of a criminal case against the headmistress of CBSE-run school, Bhandewadi, in Pardi area, under provisions of the Census Act, 1948, and IPC Section 187. The move comes after the school allegedly failed to submit a list of teachers and staff for appointment as enumerators and supervisors, despite repeated directives issued since February and a reminder in April.Officials said refusal to comply with census-related duties amounts to dereliction of a national obligation, and action has been initiated after due process. Kamlakar Rajurkar, junior engineer from Lakadganj zone, has been authorised to pursue the FIR.Officials maintained that strict action is necessary to ensure timely execution of the census, which is critical for urban planning and delivery of welfare schemes.NMC ramps up Census preparationsNagpur: With 4,500 enumerators and 700 supervisors deployed, the NMC has stepped up preparations for Census 2026-27, with each enumerator assigned around 800 citizens and field training scheduled from April 8. Municipal commissioner and chief census officer Vipin Itankar on Tuesday directed officials to ensure accuracy, transparency and time-bound execution of the exercise, stressing its importance for welfare planning. A total of 91 personnel are part of the training programme, including 60 field trainers currently undergoing a three-day session, while the remaining 31 will be trained from April 9. Officials have been instructed to effectively use digital tools, streamline data collection, and promptly address field-level challenges.
