Rajkot: A 32-year-old man died after setting himself on fire at an office in the Motibaug area of Junagadh on Wednesday evening, police said.The deceased, Javid alias Jabir Qadri, had two children. According to early police findings, Qadri went to an office where a married woman he was said to be infatuated with worked. In front of her, he poured a flammable liquid on himself and set himself ablaze. He suffered severe burns and was taken to Junagadh Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His family reached the hospital soon after and were in a state of shock and grief. The probe showed that Qadri and the woman had been in touch for two and a half years. Police are looking into whether Qadri had harassed the woman or earlier threatened to take his own life. Her statement is yet to be taken. Qadri’s family told police that he had tried to hang himself a few months ago. He was in the garment business. His father, Gulamali Qadri, said that his son had tried to kill himself around four months ago and had also been threatened by the woman’s husband. He said he had urged his son to go to the police at that time. Police added that Qadri posted two distress messages shortly before the act. These are being checked.
