Davanagere: A father in Arundi village of Nyamati taluk in Davanagere district burned his daughter’s school books and told her not to attend school, prompting the Class 10 student to call 112 and later file a complaint at Nyamati police station. Police said the man, a resident of Arundi, was addicted to alcohol and created disturbances at home daily. The girl reported that after drinking, her father prevented her from going to school, burned her books and caused a commotion. Responding to the 112 call, police visited the house and counselled the father. Officers Hemaraj and Ravikumar went to the girl’s home and advised him. Under the leadership of CPI Ravi from Nyamati police station, police provided the student with the necessary books and notebooks for her studies and informed the relevant school teachers, requesting them to take steps to ensure her education was not disrupted.The incident occurred during the preparatory exam period, with the SSLC exams for the 2025-26 session scheduled from March 18 to April 2. The father’s conduct sparked public outrage, police said.
