Nagpur: Residents of Pratap Nagar appealed to CM Devendra Fadnavis and police commissioner Ravinder Singal to install traffic signals, speed breakers, and barricades at the busy crossing near Radhe Mangalam Hall on Rana Pratap Nagar Ring Road following a fatal accident that claimed the life of a bike-taxi driver, which was being run illegally by an app-based company.The accident occurred around 9.30pm on Saturday at the junction in South-West Assembly constituency. According to locals, a bike-taxi driver fell on the road after a collision between his motorcycle and a moped. In the chaos, a black car coming from GT Chowk side ran over the rider’s head, killing him on the spot. Two others were seriously injured in the accident.Residents described the accident as shocking and tragic, stating that an innocent youth died due to the unsafe traffic conditions at the crossing. They said the area has become accident-prone due to multiple factors. Locals pointed out that several street food vendors set up stalls at the corner of the Ring Road, effectively creating a food lane. Customers visiting these stalls often park their vehicles on the roadside, causing congestion and increasing risk of accidents. Minor and major mishaps became a regular occurrence, local residents claimed.Pipeline work for monsoon water drainage is currently underway on same road. Following the accident, citizens demanded installation of traffic signals, blinking lights, yellow-striped speed breakers at the crossing.
