Bathinda: Activists of farmer organisation BKU (Ekta-Sidhupur), along with residents of Kothe Chet Singh village, blocked the Bathinda-Muktsar road on Tuesday demanding immediate compensation after girdawari (special revenue survey) to assess crop damage caused by recent unseasonal rainfall and hailstorms.Farmers expressed concern over the slow pace of the assessment, pointing out that only two patwaris have been deputed to survey 12,000 acres across nearly half a dozen villages in the Ablu block. “The girdawari will take far too long at this rate, and compensation will be delayed. The state govt must depute more officials and direct them to complete the survey speedily,” said BKU (Ekta-Sidhupur) leader Baldev Singh Sandoha. Sandoha added that farmers have suffered massive losses as crops were flattened by rain, hail, and high-velocity winds. He further alleged that many farmers are still waiting for the full compensation promised for losses incurred during the last year’s floods. MSID:: 130083679 413 |
