Mysuru/Madikeri: A farmer in B Matakere village in HD Kote has died after being attacked by an elephant early on Thursday.DCF K Paramesh said that a villager, identified as Mada, 62, died in an elephant attack near his village early in the day. A team of foresters are investigating the incident. The village, located 45km away from Mysuru city, is close to Bandipur Tiger Reserve. Foresters suspect he may have been attacked when he was alone.
Operation to drive back jumbosMeanwhile, foresters in Kodagu launched an operation to drive back a herd of elephants from coffee plantations to the woods. A herd of 19 elephants, including three calves, was found roaming in the coffee plantations in Margolli and Mylapur villages, under the Thithimati range forest. This followed large-scale complaints by villagers that the herd was posing a danger to their lives and damaging crops.Thithimathi range forest officer Gangadhar led the forest operation team. Meanwhile, two herds of elephants were chased back into the Maldare reserve forest.
