New Delhi: In a bid to strengthen interstate connectivity, Delhi govt plans to deploy 50 environment-friendly AC buses across 17 routes. The initiative is aimed at expanding access to neighbouring states and enhancing options for passengers.According to officials, Delhi Transport Corporation will engage 12-metre AC buses for interstate operations. These buses will run on benchmark rates prescribed by the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings, ensuring standardised and regulated fa-res across routes. The move comes as part of a broader expansion of interstate transport services. DTC has already commenced operations of electric buses on key routes connecting the national capi-tal to nearby towns, including services to Baraut in Uttar Pradesh and Sonipat, Dharuhera and Panipat in Haryana. Officials said these routes have improved last-mile connectivity and provided a reliable alternative for daily commuters travelling between Delhi and adjoining regions.Several new routes are in the pipeline. These include Nanaksar Delhi–Ghaziabad bus terminal, Delhi–Rewari, Delhi–Karnal, Delhi–Rohtak, Delhi–Alwar and Delhi–Jewar. Officials said these routes are expected to significantly benefit daily commuters from NCR as well as boost connectivity with major towns in Haryana and Rajasthan. The Delhi–Jewar route is expected to improve access to the upcoming Noida International Airport. Route planning has been done keeping in mind passenger demand, traffic flow and regional connectivity needs, ensuring better frequency, reduced travel time and improved last-mile access for commuters, added the officials.Delhi govt is also focusing on promoting religious tourism. Transport minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said bus services are being planned to major religious destinations like Katra, home to the Vaishno Devi shrine, Khatu Shyam and Ayodhya. The aim is to provide devotees with safer and more convenient travel options from the national capital to places of faith. The govt is also explori-ng the feasibility of launching interstate bus services between Delhi and Bi-har, keeping in mind the large Poorvanchali population residing in the city. An MoU is expected to be sig-ned soon to operationalise this connectivity and strengthen transport links between the two regions.“Delhi govt is committ-ed to ensuring comfortable, affordable and seamless travel for citizens. Strengthening interstate connecti-vity remains a priority, alongside efforts to expand access to religious destinations,” said Singh.
