Churachandpur: The Zomi Council in a memorandum to home minister Amit Shah demanded time-bound political autonomy for Kuki-Zomi-Mizo-Hmar as the only path to peace, warning that “justice denied to Pu Vungzagin Valte is justice denied to the Zo people”.The council demanded the speeding up of the ongoing CBI inquiry into the attack on Valte.
“Nearly three years have passed since an elected BJP MLA was lynched… yet no visible, time-bound prosecution,” the memo said, calling it “systematic marginalisation” of hill tribes under “majoritarian Meitei dominance”.The council demanded that the Centre initiate a time-bound engagement to consider and address the political aspirations of the “Zo hill tribes to ensure concrete constitutional and administrative measures for a genuine political autonomy and security.”“The manner and circumstances of the unfortunate attack on his life on the fateful day of May 4, 2023, raises many doubts and unanswered questions. His driver Thanghoulal unfortunately succumbed to his injuries the very same day. It is our demand that the case be speeded up impartially and book the culprits and all those responsible as per law of the land in a time bound manner,” the council stated.
