Mohali: The Punjab excise department issued a strict warning to hotel, restaurant and bar owners in Mohali against serving or selling liquor sourced from outside the state. Officials warned that strict legal action, including cancellation of licence, will be taken against establishments found with liquor meant for sale in other states.Assistant commissioner of excise, Ropar range, Ashok Chalhotra said the department had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against illegal sale of liquor as it affected the state’s revenue. He made it clear that liquor served in hotels, restaurants and bars must be purchased only from authorised vendors in Punjab.
Chalhotra said recently the excise department conducted a raid at an establishment in Kharar, during which liquor labelled “for sale in Chandigarh only” was recovered. Preliminary investigation revealed that the liquor was not authorised for sale in Punjab and was allegedly being served illegally in the establishment.He said that the department launched a detailed investigation to identify the source of the liquor and persons involved in its supply. Officials are also collecting information about Chandigarh-based liquor contractor from whom the stock was allegedly procured.The assistant commissioner warned all hotel, restaurant and bar operators in Mohali district to strictly comply with the rules and purchase liquor only from authorised sources.
