Gurgaon: An alleged property fraud has landed three people, including a former MLA, in the soup. A case has been registered at Sadar police station against former Gurgaon MLA Umesh Aggarwal, his son Samarth and their associate Deepak Chugh for “cheating” a local resident in a multi-lakh deal. The case was registered on March 2 under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC following a complaint by Saroj Bansal, a resident of Sector 39. Umesh refused to speak to TOI when this reporter contacted him in his office. Bansal alleged that she purchased a plot at Avenue 77 on NH8 through property dealers Umesh and his son on March 5, 2021. The plot was sold by Deepak. Bansal transferred Rs 15 lakh on Sept 10, 2021 and another Rs 15 lakh on Sept 13, 2021 from her Union Bank of India account to a Punjab National Bank account held in the name of Deepak. The remaining payment was made in cash to Umesh and his son, which she claimed was supported by voice recordings in her possession. After receiving the payment, the accused assured her that the GPA and registration documents would be prepared soon. She alleged that the suspects handed over some papers in an envelope and gave possession of the plot — located opposite Hyatt Residency near Gujarat Haveli — following which she constructed a boundary wall on the land. When Bansal got the documents verified while planning to sell the plot, she found that the papers provided were unsigned and incomplete. Bansal said that Deepak and her family later denied any deal with the former and claimed that the complainant illegally took possession of their plot. Bansal also submitted an audio recording in which Umesh and another person were allegedly heard discussing and acknowledging that the plot was sold and payment was received. Talking to TOI, the son of the complainant, who runs a tyre business, said that they knew Umesh for many years and even gave their property to him for election use. “We trusted Umesh a lot and he also used one of our properties as his party office in the 2014 elections, which he successfully contested. We have the recording to prove the cash was given to Umesh,” the victim’s son said.
