Ahmedabad: Abhayam, the 181 women’s helpline, will complete 12 years of operations on March 8, which is celebrated as International Women’s Day. Officials said the helpline has handled 18.1 lakh calls during this period, reaching the spot in 3.6 lakh cases. On-the-spot counselling helped resolve about 2.29 lakh cases.The service is also available through an app with a panic button for quicker response. Several city organisations have planned events on March 8 to mark the day. UN Women will focus on the theme of rights, justice and action for all women.
SRISTI will felicitate women entrepreneurs for innovations and contributions to society, while another city NGO will hold an event focused on women drivers. The Gujarat State Women Doctors conference on Sunday will bring together women doctors from across the state on the theme of AI, diet and new technology. City institutions will also organize rallies and workshops on Sunday.
