Kanpur: An eight-year-old boy was killed after a speeding car hit his bicycle in Basrehar area of Etawah district and dragged him for nearly 500 metres before he fell onto the road on Sunday night. The driver fled the scene, police said.Police said the impact was so severe that the child got stuck on the car’s bonnet, but the driver did not stop and instead accelerated. After travelling about half a kilometre, the car swerved, causing the child to fall onto the road, triggering panic among nearby residents.CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the child on the bonnet of the car. ASP (Rural) Shrish Chandra said police were scanning CCTV footage from nearby routes to identify and trace the driver. “The accused will be arrested soon,” he said.The deceased was identified as Ritik, a resident of Amritpur. His father works as a salesman at a petrol pump. Police said Ritik was returning home on a bicycle from the fields when a speeding car hit him near a temple. After being alerted by locals, police reached the spot and rushed the injured child to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Family members also reached the hospital after being informed.Police said the body has been sent for postmortem and efforts are underway to locate the absconding driver. Ritik’s uncle, Ajay Kumar, said the accident took place when the child was turning towards home from the fields. “We rushed him to the hospital, but he could not be saved,” he said. tnn
