Bokaro: Deputy commissioner (DC) Ajay Nath Jha on Saturday directed the representatives of the ESL Steel Limited (Vedanta Group) to strictly comply with environmental rules. The plant is situated at Siyaljori of Chandankyari block. “Complaints are being received that the plant is polluting Ijri river. The company should immediately take appropriate steps to keep rivers, ponds, and other water sources pollution-free. If the water source gets polluted due to any company, accountability will be fixed,” Jha said. The DC also took stock of the ESL’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) and suggested it to make the activities more transparent, effective, and compatible to local needs.ESL’s deputy CEO Ravish Sharma said, “We had talks with the DC regarding our CSR initiatives and overall industrial efforts.”JMM’s Chandankyari MLA Umakant Rajak had complained to the administration that the plant was polluting the Ijri river. A four-member team led by SDO Chas inspected the point where the company’s processed dirty water was falling into the river. The report was submitted to the DC.
