Namakkal: An election flying squad team seized gold, silver, and diamond jewellery worth 2.39 crore in Tiruchengode, in Namakkal district, on Thursday night.The team was conducting vehicle checks on Namakkal Road when they intercepted a delivery van near a private college. The van, belonging to a private firm based in Salem, was heading from Namakkal to Tiruchengode.Officials said the company procures gold, silver, and diamond jewellery from large merchants and delivers them to customers in various towns. During the inspection, the squad found jewellery worth 2.39 crore in the vehicle.Although the consignment carried details about the origin of the jewellery and its delivery destinations, officials found no documents proving payment of GST or other taxes, prompting them to seize the jewellery. The seized jewellery was later handed over to Tiruchengode revenue divisional officer (RDO).As the required supporting documents were missing, the ornaments were confiscated and deposited in the treasury. RDO Lenin said the items could be reclaimed after the submission of valid supporting documents.
