Nagpur: Cracking down on human trafficking in the city, the social security department of the Nagpur crime branch rescued three women and five minor girls from a brothel allegedly operated by a woman named Sunita Karmawat in Ganga Jamuna red-light area of the city.Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch conducted a late-night raid at Crorepati Gali, near Durga Mandir, where Karmawat ran a brothel at a rented house. The girls, believed to have been brought from outside Maharashtra, were allegedly coerced into sex work.Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch conducted a late-night raid at Crorepati Gali, near Durga Mandir, where Karmawat had reportedly been running a prostitution ring out of a rented house owned by one Pamma Seth. The girls, believed to have been brought from outside Maharashtra, were allegedly lured under false pretences and coerced into sex work.A case has been registered against Karmawat under Section 143(2) of the BNS and Sections 3, 4, 5, and 7 of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act, 1956.The operation was carried out under the leadership of CP Ravinder Singal, joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, additional CP Vasant Pardeshi, DCP Rahul Maknikar, ACP Abhijit Patil. PI Rahul Shire led the operation.
