Mangaluru: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Dakshina Kannada district committee, will organise a three-day Yuvajana Jatha from Sept 7 to 9, demanding employment generation, priority for locals in recruitment, and implementation of the recommendations of the Sarojini Mahishi report.DYFI district president BK Imthiyaz told reporters on Tuesday, that despite the presence of hundreds of educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada producing thousands of graduates each year, the majority remain jobless. Imthiyaz said the govt should fill vacancies in various departments and stop all contract-based job appointments. Industrial zones should be established in every taluk to ensure sustainable employment, he demanded. He said the industrial areas in Baikampady, Gunjimutt, and Mudipu have failed in ensuring employment for locals due to the failure of successive govts.The Karnataka State Employment of Local Candidates in Industries, Factories, and Other Establishments Bill, 2024, should be passed in the assembly and council for the benefit of locals, he said. Criticising the central govt for failing to deliver on its promise of creating two crore jobs annually, Imthiyaz said that the govt policies have led to job losses.DYFI district secretary Santosh Bajal said the central govt has been promoting internships and apprenticeships, which cannot be considered as employment. The jatha will be inaugurated at Belthangady by theatre personality Sathish Shetty Hiriyadka and DYFI state president Lavitra Vastad. The jatha will pass through Uppinangady, Puttur, BC Road, Farangipete, and Bajal on the first day. On Sept 8, the jatha will commence from Vamanjoor and will pass through Gurpura, Kaikamba, Moodbidri, Mulki, Surathkal, and Kasaba Bengre. On Sept 9, the jatha will commence from Mudipu and will pass through Deralakatte, Ullal, and Thokkottu. A valedictory jatha will be taken out from Ambedkar Circle to Mini Vidhana Soudha in Mangaluru. DYFI central committee member and MLA from Kerala, M Vijin, will be the main speaker during the valedictory, he added.
