Udupi: Additional district and sessions court FTSC-1 (Pocso court), Udupi, sentenced two men to five years in jail for sexually assaulting a minor girl belonging to a Scheduled Caste.The girl, a student of a school in Amasebailu in Kundapur taluk, travelled to school in an autorickshaw driven by Sharath Shetty. One day, Sharath and his friend Prashanth Naik, both residents of Machattu village in the taluk, sexually harassed her.
Distressed, she reported the incident to her teachers, who informed Amasebailu police on July 15, 2025.Based on the complaint, police registered a case under various sections of the law, including the Pocso Act and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Kundapur DySP HD Kulkarni completed the investigation within 15 days and filed a chargesheet against Sharath and Prashanth.After a swift trial, the court Thursday sentenced both accused to five years’ imprisonment and imposed a Rs 5,000 fine. Public prosecutors Prakash Chandra Shetty, Jayaram Shetty and Y T Raghavendra argued the case on behalf of the survivor.
