Surat: Ahead of Shaheed Diwas, the city’s diamond industry paid tribute to martyrs Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru by organizing a mega blood donation drive that collected 1,205 units of blood on Saturday.The campaign, described as a “Raktanjali” to the martyrs, was jointly organized by 127 diamond companies. The drive was held in the Varachha area at the premises of diamond units, where large numbers of artisans and employees gathered from the morning to donate blood.The initiative aimed to meet the rising demand for blood at hospitals and medical institutions across the city.According to organizers, 270 units were donated to SMIMER Blood Bank, 341 units to Lok Samarpan Blood Bank and 594 units to Kiran Hospital Blood Bank, taking the total collection to 1,205 units.Police personnel, army jawans, doctors, nursing staff and local residents also joined the effort, turning the event into a broad civic tribute. Former city mayor Daxesh Mavani, retired army officers and members of the Surat District Ex-Servicemen Service Board were present at the event.
