Hyderabad: Delhi high court on Thursday directed the Election Commission of India to consider K Kavitha‘s plea to register her new party ‘Telangana Praja Jagruthi’, even as she sharpened her political pitch, declaring her fight against ‘daddy’, Modi and ‘Junior Modi’. She had approached the ECI to register her outfit on Jan 23.The high court asked the ECI to examine her application for registering the party. The counsel for the ECI informed the court that a decision would be taken soon, while Kavitha’s counsel submitted that deficiencies flagged by the commission on Feb 23 had been addressed. “The present petition is disposed of while directing the ECI to consider the application filed by the petitioner,” the court said. Kavitha’s lawyer sought a direction to the ECI to decide within four weeks, citing the likelihood of local body elections in Telangana being notified by mid-April. The court, however, declined to set a timeline. Kavitha had moved the high court seeking expeditious processing of her application under section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, arguing that despite submitting all required documents, there had been no decision from the commission. Her push to formalise a new political outfit comes months after a dramatic split with the BRS, led by her father, former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Kavitha was suspended from the party in Sept 2025 after she accused senior leaders, including T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar, of ‘tarnishing’ KCR’s image over the Kaleshwaram project. She later resigned and announced plans to float her own party. Her discharge in the Delhi liquor policy case on Feb 26 has further cleared the decks for her political re-entry. While the formation of a new party had been signalled earlier, the name Telangana Praja Jagruthi came into the public domain after she approached the high court over delays in registration.Fight against KCR, PM, ‘Jr Modi’Striking an aggressive tone during an informal interaction with the media on Thursday, Kavitha said her fight is against daddy (KCR), Modi and ‘Junior Modi’ (indirectly referring to chief minister A Revanth Reddy). She said the party would be launched soon and that she would meet national leaders after Sri Rama Navami. “I will reveal the party agenda and other issues before the launch. All technical issues for registration will be resolved soon,” she said. Kavitha asserted that her party would not act as a proxy for any other formation or group. She also accused the Congress and the chief minister of continuing to invoke her name even after her exit from the BRS, including references in the assembly. On her electoral plans, Kavitha said party leaders were urging her to contest from Wanaparthy in the next assembly elections, though she had earlier indicated interest in Bodhan or Siddipet.
