Mysuru: The delay in completing the railway under bridge (RuB) works and road widening near Kannegowdana Koppal (KG Koppal) on New Kantharaj Urs Road has emerged as a major bottleneck in the city. The narrow passage and increasing movement of vehicles through the congested RuB result in frequent traffic congestion.Daily, thousands of vehicles pass through this narrow passage, including state-run KSRTC buses, as it connects to Kuvempunagar, Saraswathipuram, JP Nagar, and several other areas in west Mysuru. The narrow passage also intersects on the roads connecting to the district court complex, zilla panchayat, DC office, University, Maharaja College, and Sharadavilas Educational Institutions towards Ashoka Circle. Daily commuters and motorists, including students, govt employees, and residents using this stretch, are the worst hit by traffic jams during peak hours from 8 am to 10 am and 5 pm to 7 pm.Vehicles line up on all four sides of the narrow passage during peak hours. The absence of cameras and traffic optimisation facilities, and the lack of deployment of additional traffic police at this junction during peak hours, has also aggravated the problem. The police department has also identified this narrow passage as an accident spot, as road accident cases are frequent here.Mysuru City Corporation commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif said that MCC will look into the demands to widen the stretch and will discuss the matter with the authorities concerned to ease the bottlenecks at this narrow passage.
