Gurgaon: A decomposed body of a man was found in a pond in Sector 76 on Monday evening. Police said the body could have been lying there for several days.They said locals first noticed the body floating in the pond and alerted authorities. A police team reached the spot and retrieved the body, which had decomposed significantly, making identification difficult. “No ID was found on the body,” an officer said.Officers said preliminary examination indicated that the body could be around four to five days old, adding that no immediate injury marks could be clearly established due to the condition of the body.The body has been sent to the mortuary for post-mortem examination, which is expected to ascertain the exact cause of death.Police said efforts are underway to establish the identity of the deceased. Nearby police stations have been alerted, and records of missing persons are being checked to find a match.“We are trying to identify the deceased and verify if any missing person complaint corresponds with the description. The cause of death will be clear after the post-mortem report,” a senior officer from Kherki Daula police station said.A case is yet to be registered in the matter. Police said further legal action will be initiated based on the findings of the post-mortem and identification of the deceased.The area around the pond was briefly cordoned off during the recovery operation. Police have also spoken to residents of nearby sectors to gather any information that could help in the investigation.
